How long have you been CrossFitting, when did you start? I started crossfitting march of 2011. Roughly 10 months
How did you find Field House Gym and CrossFit? Daniel Brubaker told me about it all the time. We worked together and that's all he talked about. Then I met Andrew Bowden and Joey McGeoy and the rest is history
How often do you make it to the gym and which class time do you prefer? Anywhere from 4-6 days a week, at the 6am, noon and 1630. I prefer 6am so I can swim or run at noon.
What do you do for a living? More than just a job title, what do you actually do and what do you enjoy most about it. I'm a hospital corpsman in the Navy but I work as a Command Fitness Leader. I work out sailors who are overweight, or cannot pass the Physical Fitness Assessment.
Do you have a favorite skill/lift and why? My favorite lift is the Clean and Jerk. It's a lift that takes raw power, especially the clean lol.
What is your nutritional philosophy and why? Portion control. It's all I did when I started crossfit. I was a gym rat before I joined crossfit and weighed 205. I started measuring my veggies, grains, meats, etc and toned down to 175. …

Games People Play
David trying to teach Mike how to play Angry Birds while doing plank holds.
In the coming weeks and months we are all going to be hit with the tidal wave that is the CrossFit Games. It begins next month with the CrossFit Games Open, which as its name would suggest is open to all. To all... Yes that means you! No you might take first place, but you will have a great time doing the WODs and you can revel in the anticipation of "have they posted this week's WOD?" Then you can moan and complain about what type of demented idiot thought of that WOD as you peal yourself off the floor. Really its was a great experience last year, the more people who do it the more fun it is for everyone. So make plans now. The first WOD goes up February 22nd.
So now that you have decided to buckle down and go hard for the Open. How do you set goals, like improving my diet, hitting 5 WODs a week, or getting 9 hours of sleep? The same way you set any kind of goal. I lifted this from Mark and Angel Hack Life, though it's not original to them:
ContinueS.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. Let’s briefly review each:
Specific – A general goal would be, “Get in shape.” But a related specific goal would be, “Join a health club and workout 3 days a week for the next 52 weeks.” A specific goal has a far greater chance of being accomplished because it has defined parameters and constraints.
Measurable – There must be a logical system for measuring the progress of a goal. To determine if your goal is measurable, ask yourself questions like: How much time? How many…

AWRGHHHHHHHHH........
I am impressed with Gil, I feel this way when I even see rowing on the board, he made it all the way to the rower, before letting his emotions fly. Discipline!!!
We all have various reasons for doing CrossFit from being buff and beautiful for the beach to competing in the Games. For some of us it is as simple as I do CrossFit because it works, it takes an hour and doing it with my friends keeps me accountable and fun. When thinking bout how to market our gym, we want to address all these reasons, but when I saw this study I knew that for me this was why I do CrossFit. I have attached the study here, but the gist is that they took crosssections of human legs, I am assuming using an MRI, In the image below one subject was a 40 year old triathlete, the second was a 70 year old triathlete and the third was a sedentary 74 year old. What struck me as I looked at the image was the relative size of the muscle mass in the two triathletes, the fat and lack of muscle in the sedentary subject wasn't much of a surprise. But also notice the relative size equality of the bone in the two athletes especially when compared to the sedentary subject. (FYI adipose tissue is body fat)

Name nickname – Bill A. (editor's note: also known as Mr. Amazing or Mr. A for short)
Relative age – 39 and holding for another 2 weeks (editor's note: now 2 days)
How long have you been CrossFitting, when did you start? almost a year – started April 2010
How did you find Field House Gym and CrossFit? Charles Gibbs and I heard about this crazy punishing workout place through word of mouth. Since I had been sitting on my butt for 15 years doing absolutely no exercise, I decided to give it a shot. We committed that we’d do it for 90 days, no matter what. That was a tough 90 days….
How often do you make it to the gym and which class time do you prefer? 4 times a week at 6am – we get the WOD fresh off the press and are the guinea pigs to see if its too hard for the ordinary folks who can’t make the dawn patrol. Usually it is so everyone else gets the watered down version.
What do you do for a living? More than just a job title, what do you actually do and what do you enjoy most about it. I’m a lawyer, which despite all the negatives, means I solve problems all day long. I’m kind of like a plumber for businesses.
Do you have a favorite skill/lift and why? I like any of the gymnastic/body weight stuff. Picking up something heavy is cool, but there’s something about being able to fling your body into some weird position, on demand, that is much more satisfying.
What is your nutritional philosophy and why? Michael Pollan said it best – “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” Eating things that your grandmother would recognize as food is critical – I don’t remember my Big Momma ever serving up a nice steaming bowl of high fructose corn syrup at Sunday lunch. We also try to buy directly from farmers – I’ve got a guy I buy veggies, chickens and eggs from, another source for beef and am working on pork.
What 3 foods do you always have in your house? Olive oil, eggs, bacon. I can make anything taste better with these three.
Favorite physical activity outside of crossfit? Flexing in front of my bathroom mirror while singing “Sexy Back.”
Who do you use as a measuring stick/who inspires you in our gym? Everybody inspires me because we’re all dealing with our own issues. The guy finishing first used to finish last and the guy finishing last will, if he sticks with it, finish first sooner or later. It’s the effort that really inspires me. But I really do want to beat Soto’s ass, just once.
If you could trade places with any one historical person or live in any particular place or era, who, where, when would it be and why? Any dictator of any relatively wealthy nation at any point in time would be fine with me. People always say “if I were king…” – I’d like to put that to the test.
One thing most people don't know about you? I can read other people’s minds. And I can fly.
What 3 songs would you like to see included in your ideal CrossFit playlist? I’m too busy trying not to vomit to worry about what’s playing, but I could do with much less of that stupid song by Muse that sounds like “The Final Countdown”
What was the last book you read? Empire of the Summer Moon – a history of the closing of the Great Plains and the Comanchee Nation. Now those guys were crossfit!
